Cherished, part two

Two of my favorite clients came in to see me last week (I’m allowed to have favorite clients, right?). This couple is in their early sixties. Their story is one you just wouldn’t believe, it reminds me of Saul, the Prodigal Son, and the woman at the well, all rolled into one.

Although these two were radically saved about eight years ago, they still deal with tough stuff, marriage obviously being a part of the equation.

Two weeks prior, I challenged them to cherish one another for one week straight, fighting off the familiar temptation to criticize and ignore.

A miracle happened.

They walked into my office brand new. I was almost giddy.

The wife described how attentive and caring her husband had been, and the husband smiled more in that session than I had seen him smile in the last year combined.

This was a good moment for me as their counselor.

Will they still have bumps in the road? Yes. Of course. But they have tasted the sweetness of cherishing and being cherished, there’s no coming back from that, it will continue to drive them towards health and wholeness.
