There are two audio recordings saved to my phone, both of them are from about three years ago. If you press play on these recordings, you will hear the sound of our daughters laughter. Abby is about 5 months old in her recording, and Lucy is almost four. Let me tell you, there is nothing sweeter than a babies laughter; it’s the sound of complete surrender to the emotion of joy.
When we laugh, we are abiding in the joy that is our salvation. Our joy is not dependent upon our circumstances, neither then, should our laughter be.
Not to mention, raising children definitely requires a sense of humor, in fact, I think it should be a prerequisite. Otherwise, parents of infants and toddlers might go a little crazy! As Christians, shouldn’t our homes be filled with laughter? If anyone has anything to celebrate it is us! This week, look for ways to make your spouse and kiddos laugh out loud. For us this means tickling parties on our bed, Star Wars “force” fights and doing funny impersonations from our favorite Disney Pixar movies.
One of my most dedicated clients has a beautiful laugh. If you knew her story, you would wonder how she is able to laugh at all. I’m convinced that her laughter comes from the peace and the hope she has been given through her salvation in Jesus.
